The Balearic island of Ibiza is known worldwide for its thriving club scene, being a getaway destination that many inhabit for a few days to as long as 5 months bent on living a hedonistic lifestyle all summer long. Why is it we hear you ask that Ibiza is the first place to be mentioned when discussing dance music and the summer sun?
A number of clubs on the island hold iconic statuses, all with emphatically different atmospheres. Some are celebrated for their intensely decorated, purpose built rooms that hold up to 10,000 people, whilst some remain slightly more unheard of, holding home in stripped back airport hangars dedicated to those who are still up and up for it after the weekend.
Amnesia is the islands most famous nightclub, which blossomed under the reign of Alfredo Fiorito in the 1970’s and 80’s, one of Ibiza’s most legendary figures. Today Amnesia is still one of the most popular clubs on the island with brands such as Marco Carola’s Music On and Sven Väth’s Cocoon returning as weekly residents year in year out. Privilege is the largest club on the island (and also on the planet), clocking in with that huge 10,000 capacity mentioned earlier.
Other notable hotspots include Sankeys, the Iberian venture of the Mancunian club brand, Space, which has won the ‘Best Global Club’ award numerous times, Pacha, a club dedicated to glitz and glamour and also Eden and Es Paradis, both of which are located right next to the harbour in San Antonio. DC-10 is one of the islands more notorious locations, known for its Monday morning party Circo Loco, which has become the favourite of true fans of the underground who flock there after the weekend to enjoy as much debauchery as they can handle.
Aside from the many larger establishments, Ibiza also boasts a number of just as impressive smaller venues including the centrally located Underground and Cova Santa. San Antonio is a hotspot for boat parties, whilst all over the island secret pop up events and afters will be thrown when and where you least expect them.
