Set far down south in the Hampshire Basin, Southampton is the county’s largest city and has a population of around quarter of a million. Home to two universities, the city supports a significant student mass and offers the facilities for them to enjoy their time away from the library. Often branded the cruise capital of the world, it has plenty of scenic spots, cultural spaces and music destinations, making it a worthwhile trip if you’re willing to do your research first.
On the dancing front, a variety of bars and clubs are available to visit, but Junk stands out as the one to get to know. Throwing a selection of parties for students and professionals alike, the 2013 DJ Mag ‘Best Small Club’ has been responsible for big names like Jackmaster, Cristoph and Darius Syrossian playing out in Southampton, and so the two-room space has become a key figure in the city’s party landscape, with popular nights including Not Your Thing and CU Next Tuesday. Festivals also pop up at various different points of the year, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled if you’re living in Southampton for the foreseeable future.
