The Albert Hall - Manchester
The Manchester Albert Hall is one of Manchester's most iconic buildings. Built in 1910 as a Methodist central hall, the Grade II listed building has been transformed by event organisers Trof - the talented folks behind Gorilla and The Deaf Institute, two of Manchester's most revered music institutions - into one of the largest and most impressive event spaces in Manchester.
After sitting mostly dormant for 40 years, The Albert Hall was in a state of a disarray. Dust covered all four floors of the building, and dirt, grime, and litter infested every nook and cranny. It took Trof over a year to transform the building, turning it into a state of the art venue Manchester can be proud of.
Importantly, Trof were careful not to ruin the Albert Hall's unique character and style during the renovation. The Grade II listed building's ornate ceilings and impressive stained glass windows remain intact, as does its horseshoe shaped main hall with its 2,000+ capacity.
Trof also renovated the building's lower floors, transforming them into stylish bars and restaurants serving tasty food at reasonable prices.
The general public got its first look at the new and improved Albert Hall during 2013's Manchester International Festival (or MIF, for short). The eighteen day event saw more than 300 performers take to Manchester to deliver a variety of performances, many of which took place at the Albert Hall.
The Albert Hall eventually opened to the general public in early 2014. Since then, the venue has played host to some of the best artists in the world. A collaboration with Manchester based clubbing brand 'The Warehouse Project' has also seen some of the biggest and most popular DJs in the world taking to the Albert Hall's stage to play sets to thousands of adoring fans.
The future looks bright for the Albert Hall with dozens of exciting gigs and concerts lined up for 2015 and beyond. The venue will also play host to Transmission, an epic series of events that will see some of the finest electronic music acts in the world performing on the Albert Hall's stage.
