Jonathan Richard Cooper was born in the Belgian Congo in Africa. In the early 90’s, Jon formed a dancing drag cabaret act known as ‘The Pleased Wimmin’ with two friends from college. Jon suddenly had an alter ego that only came out at night. Dancing outrageously in pre-house clubs such as Kinky Gerlinky and the like ‘The Pleased Wimmin’ became infamous in London. More importantly, they encouraged people to lose their inhibitions and this soon caught the attention of the original Shoomer, Danny Rampling.

Danny was so impressed by their style, that he invited The Pleased Wimmin to become a regular feature at Rampling’s infamous Glam night at London’s Milk bar. It was here that Jon was offered his first DJ break, filling in a warm up spot one night. Jon learnt to DJ on the job and with his instinctive knowledge of how to work a crowd, he was a complete natural and destined to become one of the UK’s leading new DJ’s.

In 1993, Jon started his own night, ‘Pleased’ at the Velvet Underground in London. What started as a low key, intimate gathering every Wednesday, grew into the best mid-weeker in London – attracting music, media and club types alike. Boy George, Blur, the Manics, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and Pete Burns were a few of the regular attendees.

In 1994 Jon turned his hand to the studio, with his first single 'Passion' (a cover of the Bobby O production by The Flirts) produced alongside Pizzaman (aka Norman Cook) and signed to Norman's label Southern Fried. It went on to be picked up by East West and later Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto selling 12, 000 copies and notching up a top 30 position in the National UK Charts. His next record 'Give Me Strength' this time produced with Faithless' Sister Bliss, also found it's way to Top 30 territory, followed by a number of compilation mix albums including Fantazia's House Collection 2 and DJ's At Work Volume 3 under his Jon Of The Pleased Wimmin guise. Additionally, Jon has produced a series of successful UK underground 12” singles by way of celebrated dance label Wall Of Sound under the name The Visitor.

In 1997, Jon craved something different so he took a break from dressing up and bought a home studio, deciding instead to concentrate on writing, producing and playing more eclectic sets at smaller clubs. He signed to Wall of Sound records in 2004 and released a few more underground EP’s under the pseudonym ‘The Visitor’ and completed remixes for Themroc, Grand Popo Football Club and Venus Hum.

In 2002, Jon moved away from London to Edinburgh and in 2007 he went to Napier University to study Popular Music and garnered a First Class Honours Degree.

Jon has played alongside pretty much every decent DJ there is, from Erol Alkan, 2Manydj’s, Sasha, John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia and Tom Middleton right through to the more commercial end like Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, Fergie and Eric Morillo to name a few.

Jon still plays regularly across Europe and the UK, where his current sets are likely to feature tracks and remixes by the likes of Azari & III, Cosmonauts, Rory Phillips, Black Van, The Magician, Aeroplane, DFA, Kitsune, Vitalic and Mighty Mouse.

Current residencies include Church Of The High Kicks / CC Blooms in Edinburgh which runs every Sunday. DJ Jon Pleased Wimmin with the emphasis on fun, showing off and generally acting like teenagers. We are have our legendary 'Wheel of Four-Tunes' which gets spun by you and whichever genre/artist/category it lands on dictates the music for the next half hour.
