Advanced Style screening at The Arch Café // Scalarama 2016
The emergence of street style as a cultural phenomenon in recent decades has changed the way we look at fashion. In this film, seven New York ladies offer their own unique perspectives on overcoming life’s obstacles with style and grace.
From the instant we first meet these vibrant characters, it is evident that they are destined for fame. From a glamorous 81-year-old dancer from the legendary Apollo theater, to an 80-year-old owner of a storied boutique on the Upper West Side with a penchant for over-the-top accessories, to a 93-year-old West Village artist known for her colorful ensembles and iconic red eyelashes crafted from her own hair. Based on Ari Seth Cohen’s blog of the same name, Advanced Style paints intimate and colorful portraits of independent, stylish women from 62 to 95 who are challenging conventional ideas about beauty and aging.
The stories and vital spirit of these seniors who grace the streets of New York with their exquisite sense of style and self prove that age is merely a state of mind.
