and ELEMENTS residents BT3K & SANGRIA KONG
Hip-hop, spoken word and soul powerhouse Akua Naru stops off in Yorkshire this Spring with her 6 piece DIGFLO band.
Fusing classic boom bap hip hop sounds, socially conscious rhymes, jazz-soul elements, Naru has garnered attention and accumulated rave reviews in recent years and is spoken with the same high regard as artists such as Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and The Roots.
Naru's powerful poetic lyricism, talent for story telling, and ability to integrate historical narratives into her music with unmatched eloquence, have drawn the attention of scholars and activists around the globe as well as seeing her collobarate and work with a long list of musical luminaries including Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson, Angelique Kidjo, Tune-yards, Slum Village Lords Of The Underground, Ursula Rucker, Fela Kuti drummer and afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen, Cody ChesnuTT, Chuck D and many many more.
She brings with her The DIGFLO Band, a six-piece ensemble including drums, keys, saxophone/flute, bass, guitar, and turntables, Akua Naru and her band have a reputation for captivating audiences, hyping crowds, and inspiring many.
MC's Kosi Tides and Swish return to HiFi after a triumphant support slot with People Under The Stairs last year.
Nice techniques and uptempo flows moving over the top of hazy, blissful, swirling production have seen the duo start to receive deserved attention outside of their native Leeds, with Blah Records putting out their newest nine track offering 'Mellow Thrills' as a free download.
Multi instrumentalist and songwriter Malaika has had an exciting 12 months - the hype surrounding the Leeds performer's blend of jazz, soul and Pop saw numerous high profile support slots as well as being hand picked by Jamie Calum to perform at The Montreal International Jazz Festival 2015.
