Alexander O’Neal, the platinum selling R&B singer is descending upon The Ritz in Manchester on Friday the 26th of December 2014. First appearing throughout the 1970’s and 80’s in a number of bands like Flyte Tyme, Alexander and The Mystics, O’Neal was spotted and signed to the Warner Bros label by Prince, followed by Tabu Records where he worked with names likes The SOS Band and Cherelle, the latter of which he released 2 chart topping singles with (‘Saturday Love’ and ‘Never Knew A Love Like This’).
In the same year as the first single with Cherelle was released, Alexander O’Neal released his debut album that contained three top twenty singles. This was then followed by the album ‘Hearsay’, which went 3x platinum in the UK, where he was enjoying larger stardom than in his home country. The album ‘All True Man’ also received Gold certifications in both the US and the UK. In more recent times, Alexander O’Neal has appeared on a plethora of TV programmes and shows in Britain including Just The Two Of Us, The Weakest Link, Wifeswap and the series Unsung that profiled his rise to fame with the story of Cherelle. Now since his new singing with Beverly Hills’ Howard Perl Management he is coming over to the UK to help us relive his greatest years as a truly great R&B singer.
Manchester’s The Ritz is situated on Whitworth Street West and has been a grade II listed building since June 1944. As one of the most iconic music venues in the city, The Ritz has seen a long line of revered live music acts pass in and out of its front doors. Some of its most notable performances include that from The Stone Roses, The Beatles, The Smiths, The Happy Mondays, Arctic Monkeys and Snow Patrol amongst many others.
