It is with great pleasure that we can finally announce the launch of All That Jazz! at one of Leeds' premier clubbing establishments, MiNT!
Our debut party will play host to none other than Gilles Peterson. His World Wide radio show has inspired us since the inception of this project many months ago.
Joining him on the night will be a number of artists associated with Gilles' label, Brownswood, including Earl Zinger, and Werkha!
|| All That Jazz? ||
All That Jazz! Was born out of our desire to push the boundaries within the Leeds clubbing scene. Our aim is to create a party where we can explore the true diversity of music, and reconnect with the artists and songs that have inspired a generation of producers and revellers alike, whilst translating them into the club environment. Our booking policy will aim to bring guests who are at the forefront of the music scene to MiNT, to look back at their musical roots, and delve deep into their collections for something really special.
|| Gilles Peterson Ft. Earl Zinger ||
As a man who almost needs no introduction, Gilles Peterson has had an impressive career in music spanning over 4 decades. Having started out as a disk jokey in the 80's, he has gone on to become the leading name in all things Jazz influenced. Nicknamed 'Mr Worldwide' by Ahmir Thompson, Giles broadcasted a show under the moniker for 14 years on Radio 1, before a natural progression to his current peak slot on Radio 6. The Worldwide brand also lends it's name to a ski festival in Leysin and a summer festival in Sete, both of which are curated by Peterson, as well as the Worldwide awards, which celebrate the incredible diversity in the UK dance scene.
Today, Peterson is at the forefront of his own independent label – Brownswood Recordings – which launched in 2006 as an outlet for his favourite new discoveries, including supporting artist Werkha.
Gilles will be joined on the night by Earl Zinger, AKA Rob Gallagher, a British solo musician who is experimenting with many different types of music including triphop, jazz and electronic music. Gallagher has an impressive CV in the music business having worked with similar artists such as Jazzanova, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Jazztronik.
With influences ranging from Brazil, Cuba, and beyond, Giles is sure to make the launch party a memorable affair, and frankly we couldn't be happier to have him as our first guest.
|| Werkha l|
Since Werkha unleashed his debut ‘Cube & Puzzle’ EP on Cool Kid Music, in September 2012, he has become something of an underground sensation, enjoying airplay throughout Europe, most notably from the godfather of world music, and our headliner, Gilles Peterson.
Hailing from Manchester, Leah began feeding his musical passions with classical, folk, and jazz music as a youngster. After leaving the bricks of Manchester for the sticks of Cumbria, a subsequently well-travelled childhood exposed him to a vibrant landscape of varied musical styles.
This has clearly been manifested in the sound he has harnessed as Werkha. If you have yet to sample the delights, expect to hear an infectious fusion of Afrobeat, bass, house, jazz, funk and soul, bound together and brought bang up to date through contemporary electronic production that never stands still.
