BOXED SOUND | ADDISON GROOVE | KOWTON | FRIDAY 1st MARCH | ROXX INSTALLATION SPACE
BOXED SOUND LAUNCH VIDEO → http://bxd.so/boxedsoundlaunchvideo
After a massive launch party with Jackmaster, Midland and Krystal Klear we show no signs of a sophomore slump by welcoming two fine headliners that combine sounds across juke, ghettotech, acid, funk, garage, grime, house and techno. With these guys, it’s not a genre thing; it’s a vibe thing. For the 1st March we are happy to announce very special guests…
ADDISON GROOVE (50 weapons / swamp81)
KOWTON (hessle audio / all caps)
+ STATE (nologo)
A D D I S O N G R O O V E
We are exceptionally proud to have one of the most electrifying producers of the last couple of years, Addison Groove, join us for our second outing in Southampton. One of dubstep’s original trailblazers under the Headhunter name, the Bristol born-and-bred producer single-handedly shook the underground with the anthemic ‘Footcrab’ on the exceptional Swamp81 under new alias Addison Groove.
No-one could predict the catalytic effect this track would have on encouraging a new wave of producers to look ever wider for inspiration and this innovative and highly unique dancefloor destroyer caught the attention of techno heavyweights Modeselektor, who in turn signed a stunning debut LP from Addison Groove in the form of ‘Transistor Rhythm’ released on their infallible 50 Weapons imprint.
Now working on his own label, Lost In Translation, there’s clearly lots more yet to come from Addison Groove and the exceptional sound he is building. We look forward to welcoming him down to showcase some of his brilliant material - past, present, and future.
K O W T O N
Despite spending his formative years between Manchester and the Lake District, there is no doubt Kowton is a staple in the Bristol scene, being founder of record label and impressive live show project Livity Sound alongside Peverelist and Asusu, supporting the Bristol scene by curating the intimate Boundary Object sessions held on Sunday afternoons, occasionally assisting with the running of Chris Farrell’s Idle Hands record shop, and all the while honing a solo production career that excellently welds the spartan power of classic techno with the Bristol’s rich dubstep heritage.
Kowton has had an incredible few years with highlights such as his raw, early grime influenced anthem Des Bisous being included in the top 100 tracks of 2012 according to Fact Magazine, in the top 50 tracks of 2012 according to Resident Advisor, and the top 5 tracks of 2012 according to Juno Plus. That’s some serious accolades for a producer who has mostly kept under the radar, away from the limelight. He is currently sitting on two huge releases for Hessle Audio and Glasgow’s All Caps in the form of ‘Raw Code’ (w/ Peverelist) for Hessle Audio, and the Ruff Sqwad indebted anthem ‘TFB’ for All Caps. We think this year is only going to bring further recognition to Kowton and we are incredibly happy to welcome him down alongside fellow Bristolian Addison Groove.
We’d also like to welcome State to the fold to celebrate some of the producers and DJ’s doing it big in our fine city. With a 3 track EP forthcoming on NOLOGO’s brand new label, as well as picking up attention from some of the industry’s tastemakers, keep a firm eye on this guy.
