At the forefront of the new breed of rapidly rising house stars, Dusky curate their own headline show at XOYO on October 5th.
London-based Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman – the Dusky duo – came to prominence last year with the huge underground smash Flo Jam on Alex Arnout’s Dogmatik, the label that broke Maya Jane Coles. They have since recorded for Will Saul’s Aus and Breach’s Naked Naked with tracks like Nobody Else and Vanishing Point that all link garage, vintage house and Detroit techno influences in a style that is Dusky’s own. Their versatility was on show recently with Mr Man, an emotive string and piano-laden deep house track for Anjunadeep. Given their diverse appeal, it is no surprise that names as varied as Skream, Sasha, Boddika, Pete Tong, Disclosure, Jamie Jones and Loefah have heavily supported their tracks over the last year.
Alongside promoters Bugged Out, Dusky have assembled a classy line-up of underground heroes to join them at XOYO. Paul Woolford has been dropping bombs for years, most notably 2006’s Erotic Discourse as Bobby Peru, his biggest track until this year’s ‘Untitled’ - arguably the tune of the summer. Another long-standing producer that is on the cutting-edge right now is Trevino – Marcus Intalex’s 4/4 guise – who is responsible for discerning cuts like Backtracking on The Nothing Special label. Completing the line-up is another of Nick and Alfie’s favourites in UK underground legend Neville Watson.
