Plus The Dough Rollers
As one of the earliest pioneers of the punk rock sound and style, Billy Idol is an artist who has long been revered as a uniquely energetic performer and someone who remains a true rock ‘n’ roll icon in the world today. Idol first came to fame as a member of the band Generation X, who were one of the first bands of their type to appear on Top Of The Pops on the BBC. When Idol went solo he moved to New York and became an established artists after the release of his second album ‘Rebel Yell’, which contained the hits ‘Eyes Without A Face and ‘Flesh For Fantasy’, as well as the single of the same name as the LP. Many tracks from this album were used in the soundtrack for the feature film Big that starred Tom Hanks.
Throughout the rest of his career as a solo artist Billy Idol was nominated for three Grammys in recognition of his vocals, as well as 10 MTV Video Music Awards, one of which he won for the editing in ‘Eye’s Without A Face’. Lastly, Idol also went on to win a BRIT Award in 1991 for Best British Video. Most recently Billy Idol has been writing his autobiography ‘Dancing With Myself’ that will be released on the 7th of October 2014 before he embarks on his tour the following month. This also comes around the same time as his new album that Idol is currently working on with producer Trevor Horn. During his travels Billy Idol will be visiting three venues in the UK before jetting off around Europe to play in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium before finishing in Italy.
His appearance at The O2 Academy in Birmingham will take place on the 5th November and will no doubt be an appropriately explosive performance containing lots of exciting new material and of course, all of the Idol classics.
