Billy Idol is renowned as of the first pioneers of the punk style and sound that has since expanded into one of the biggest subcultures in the UK and the world. Through his bad boy attitude and charisma he can be put amongst the top rock ‘n’ roll icons in the world and despite now being 58, he is still one of the most energetic performers around. On Monday the 10th of November, Billy Idol will be playing the final UK leg in his European tour that comes the month after him new biography ‘Dancing With Myself’ and his new album that Idol is currently working on with producer Trevor Horn.
Looking back at Billy Idols early material, he is an artist that has been constantly revered from his first work in the band Generation X, which was one of the first punk rock bands that made an appearance on BBC’s Top Of The Pops. After Idol decided to go solo he moved across the pond to New York in 1981, he became established amongst the best with the release of his most popular album ‘Rebel Yell’, that contained the title single as well as other hits like ‘Eyes Without A Face’ and ‘Flesh For Fantasy’. Many singles from this album were not only hits on radio and music television, some were also used in soundtrack for the Hollywood film Big, that featured Tom Hanks as the lead character.
Over the years Billy Idol has been nominated for and won many awards for his work. These include 3 Grammy nominations for vocal work, 10 MTV Music Video Award nominations, one of which Idol won, and final a BRIT award win. This year, Billy has been working on his new autobiography, named ‘ Dancing With Myself’, that is due to hit the shelves on October the 7th as well as his new album, due out at a similar time.
The 10th of November will see Billy Idol playing all the classics and a selection of new material at The O2 Apollo Manchester that will no doubt be an explosive performance to remember.
