LIVE NATION PRESENTS
RATLIFE' UK TOUR 2014
Strictly over 14s only / Under 16s with an adult / Photographic ID required for entry
October 25th sees Bob Geldof and The Boomtown Rats dropping in on The Ritz in Manchester as part of their ‘Ratlife’ tour, taking place over October and November.
Forming in 1975, The Boomtown Rats found stardom with their fast paced furious music and attitude, which saw them loudly settle into the punk scene of the late 70s. Fronted by Bob Geldof, the Irish vocalists disrespectful, arrogant attitude landed them as favourites of many youths who were repelling against the state, thus making them an important band of that era. Bleeding platinum albums as well as Ivor Novellos, BRIT and Grammy Awards, The Boomtown Rats toured with the likes of The Ramones, The Talking Heads, The Sex Pistols and The Stranglers amongst many others and also made history as the first ever Irish band to obtain a number one single in the UK with ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’.
After their successful and supposedly ‘brief’ regrouping, The Boomtown Rats embarked on a sell out UK tour when Geldof remarked how he had forgotten how “powerful a band The Rats are” and now they are back again to start their 2014 ‘Ratlife’ tour. The tour will see the band performing 15 dates including this exciting instalment at The Ritz in Manchester.
The Ritz is a grade II listed building in the centre of the city, built in 1978 for revellers to gather in and dance to classical music. Now, since it underwent a huge £2 million refurbishment, it holds some of the cities biggest clubbing events such as Ultimate Power, Rollerdisco at The Ritz and events curated by WHP. As well as this, it doubles as a top music venue for live acts, boasting appearances over the years from the likes of R.E.M, The Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol, Adam And The Ants and The Stone Roses. Now, the iconic venue will be playing host to The Boomtown Rats for a performance that promises to be energetic, nostalgic and most certainly electrifying.
