Gogol Bordello at O2 Academy Newcastle
Plus Mariachi EL Bronx
Gogol Bordello are currently on an international tour that will be stopping in the UK after visiting several US cities including Chicago, Los Angeles and New Orleans amongst others. After arriving in Britain, the band will be playing a number of gigs including this date at Newcastle’s O2 Academy on Monday December the 8th.
Known for their gypsy inspired punk rock that narrates exciting theatrical stage shows, Gogol Bordello exploded onto the music scene in 1999 with their debut album 'Voi-La Intruder’, which has been proceeded by a further 7 LPs and a handful of singles and extended players. The band can regularly be seen live all over the world as they are revered for tirelessly touring, having played numerous festivals in both America and Europe on an annual basis. Gogol Bordello’s most recent album ‘Pura Vida Conspiracy’ received high ratings from many music outfits as well as fans, being described as “rougher, tougher and altogether more like the raucous joy of their live shows” by Q Magazine. Over the years, as well as their long line of live performances and music releases, the band has also appeared in feature films and advertising campaigns, namely the 2005 film ‘Everything Is Illuminated’ as well as the Coca Cola Euro 2012 advert that features their track ‘Let’s Get Crazy’, which was purposely recorded for its use.
Joining Gogol Bordello will be Mariachi El Bronx, the LA based punk band whose new album will be hitting shelves in November, one month before this performance at the O2 Academy in Newcastle. The band are appearing with the headline act all over Europe this year, performing their punk rock twists on traditional Mexican mariachi folk music, the genre of music that the band take their name from.
