Forming in the 1980’s, The Happy Mondays have been a definitive band in the development of the Manchester music scene since their very first EP was released on Factory Records. The label under which ‘The Forty Five EP’ was released is an iconic label that had strong ties with The Haçienda nightclub, as the labels offices were housed above the club, not to mention that The Happy Mondays were booked to play at The Haçienda a number of times whilst the club was open.
Of all The Happy Mondays 5 studio albums, their most notable is widely agreed to be the 1990 album ‘Pills N Thrills and Bellyaches’, which contained the hugely acclaimed single ‘Step On’. Produced by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne, the LP was a worldwide hit and is this year celebrating it’s 25th anniversary.
Now with the definitive line up consisting of Shaun Ryder and brother Paul, Rowetta, Gary Whelan, Mark Day, Paul Davis and of course Bez, The Happy Mondays are touring the UK in celebrating of the albums 25th anniversary, which will be stopping in Leeds and at their hometown in Manchester as well at Sheffield’s O2 Academy on Thursday the 12th of November.
