Never ones to write off, rank outsiders Imperial Leisure bounce back with a new album, new line up and new tour dates.
The brand new tight-as-you-like rhythm section headed up by IL veteran Scott Vining (drums) is bone-shakingly badass, featuring Ben Bridges (guitar), Jack Emmings (Bass) and Richard Cox (keys, formerly Scuba Roots). Denis (aka d-boy-d-nice) is fronting with his usual outrageous vigour, as you would expect, and is flanked by an awesome array of brass players under the direction of founder IL member Rob O’Neale (trumpet). Together this bunch of musical reprobates are a force to be reckoned with on the circuit this year - “They are on fire” (Hootenanny), playing every show like it’s their last, sounding bigger and better than ever.
When it comes to the new album the pace does not let up for a moment: from beginning to end it’s jam-packed with euphoric insanity-ensuing bangers and anthems to keep a house party stomping till the early morn.
As ever the music is a blend: always pigeon-hole-resistant, Imperial Leisure provide a plethora of tunes with inspiration coming from all over. It’s a bit rock’n'roll, a bit ska, hiphop, indie, jazz, electronic, reggae…. the list goes on and so do the band – to coincide with release of this their 3rd official album, Leisure will be heading out on tour this April and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they popped up at a few festivals this year too.
