We promised something special was in the works back at the time of our first birthday in March, and now we can reveal what: a sporadic event series at the cosy Leeds club that is Hi Fi. It all kicks off with a show from Detroit neo-soul godfather Amp Fiddler on July 13th ahead of the launch of his new album, Motor City Booty. Support will come from some trusty KMAH hosts, and we would love for you to join us for a boogie.
Amp Fiddler is a real g: hailing from the musically masterful Motor City, he has managed to shine brighter than many of his precocious peers thanks to his virtuoso skills on the keys. Often found collaborating on soul drenched house jams with Moodymann or Andres, playing on tour with Theo Parrish as part of his live show or turning out his own hip hop leaning, sun kissed and oh so sweet LPs and singles on labels like Ubiquity, he is a underrated musician and vocalist who doesn't hit these shores all too often.
As if that’s not enough, Amp was also part of George Clinton’s Parliament and Funkadelic groups in the late eighties and early nineties, and is said to be the first person to have introduced the late great J Dilla to the MPC sampler. ‘Nuff said.
As such, it is a real treat to be able to bring you what will be an up close and personal performance from this singular soul brother.
