LIF - Seeds of Time film screening at Left Bank Cinema
Seeds of Time (2013 / PG / 1h 17min). Doors will be open from 5pm for a seedling swap – all welcome. Film starts 8pm
In a world where millions of acres can be devoted to growing a single variety of wheat, crop disease could ultimately lead to starvation on a global scale. The accelerating effects of climate change also affect farmers globally and food shortages lead to instability and riots. This enlightening eco-doc is both a useful introduction to the issues surrounding biodiversity and a history of seed-saving practices around the world. The focus is on Cary Fowler's collection of seeds at Svalbard underground bunker in Norway, which he adds to as he travels the globe speaking to others involved in this important work.
Before the screening Left Bank will be hosting a community seedling swap, so come along from 5pm onwards to pick up hints from local growers and perhaps some new plants for your windowsill or veg patch.
Left Bank is the former St Margaret of Antioch's Church.
Their licensed bar will be open from 5pm, also selling hot drinks and snacks, please bring your surplus seedlings to swap!
