LIF - 10 Billion: What's On Your Plate? Film screening at Hyde Park Picture House
LIF16 - 10 Billion: What's On Your Plate?
By 2050, it has been predicted that the world population will have grown to ten billion people. In the middle of a heated debate about food security, this broad and analytic documentary looks at a spectrum of global food production and distribution issues - from artificial meat, insects, seed licensing, fertilisers, biodiversity and crop resilience, through market and price instability, to trendy self-cultivation, labour issues and organic farming methods, returning after each segment to the problem of limited resources and an expanding world population. Combining rural and urban perspectives from Africa, India, USA, Japan and parts of Europe, it also features the UK's Transition Towns initiative and the Incredible Edible project here in Todmorden, Yorkshire.
The film will be followed by a short talk and Q&A with a special guest, Mary Clear. Mary is Chair of Incredible Edible in Todmorden, an urban community growing project which has described itself as “passionate people working together for a world where all share responsibility for the future wellbeing of our planet and ourselves”.
