The American soul and gospel star from Fort Worth, Texas Leon Bridges is a vocalist reminiscent of 60’s rhythm & blues, a style which throws audiences back to the era of heroes such as Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, with the Fort Worth Weekly describing Bridges music as sounding like he looks.
Leon Bridges, until last year, was a regular player at an open mic night in the Fort Worth area where he also worked as a dishwasher, until he was scouted and signed by Columbia Records. Bridges most popular single is his well known original ‘Coming Home’, which was a Top 10 Most Viral Track on Spotify and a track that received widespread critical acclaim.
After meeting Joshua Block and Austin Jenkins of White Denim, the two worked with Leon on his first few tracks as producers and wanted to record an album with vintage equipment using authentic, old style artists, making Bridges fit the bill perfectly.
With his first national tour just finishing in the US and gig supporting Sharon Van Etten, Bridges’ first single was released in February and a debut album is set for release in the summer of 2015 and has been dubbed an “album to look forward to” by the The New York Times.
Bridges will be coming over to the UK on July the 7th when he will kick off his British gigs at The Temple, inside The Institute in Birmingham, before making his way to Glasgow, Manchester and Bristol amongst other nationwide cities.
