They're one of the biggest metal bands in the world. Responsible for millions of record sales, and even more post rock show hangovers, Linkin Park are showing no sign of slowing down. Following the release of their grinding sixth album 'Hunting Party' - described recently by singer Mike Shinoda as "loud and it's rock, but not in the sense of what you've heard before," - the group are heading off on a winter tour in support of the album and will play at London's o2 Arena on 23rd November, with support from metal band Of Mice And Men. Earlier this summer, Linkin Park, who formed in California in 1996, played a visceral set a Download Festival where they scorched through their debut album 'Hybrid Theory' in full for the first time ever. Its hits including 'In The End' and 'One Step Closer', 'With You and 'Crawling' live long in the memory of the band's fans, and their raging choruses will incite a seething mosh pit in Greenwich come November.
'Hybrid Theory' was released in October 2000 and, since then, Linkin Park have gone on to become a driving force in alternative rock. Responsible for some of the biggest crossover hits, not to mention millions of record sales, Linkin Park wasted no time in enshrining modern metal in the charts. 'Hybrid Theory' peaked at number two in the US Billboard Chart and has sold more than 27 million copies worldwide to date. Led by vocalists Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, Linkin Park helped pioneer both nu-metal and rap metal. With Bennington's vocals soaring over crunching guitars and Shinoda's tough-sounding rapped verses, the band quickly developed a signature sound. Many followed in their footsteps and many tried and failed to successfully rip them off. With 'Hunting Party', Linkin Park are proving that they're still capable (and eager) to show the pretenders how it's done.
With so many years and so much history behind them, it's not hard to see why. Following 'Hybrid Theory' was 'Reanimation', a remix album that also featured new tracks. Then was 'Meteora', an album which can still be heard blaring from stereos across the land today. Despite 'Hybrid Theory''s success, Linkin Park's third album opened them up to an even larger audience. It yielded mega singles in the form of 'Numb' and 'Somewhere I Belong' and also led the band to collaborate with Jay-Z.
Since then, Linkin Park have topped the US charts with third album 'Minutes To Midnight' and toured relentlessly with some of the biggest bands on the planet. To say they know how to put on a show would be to understate their magnetic power. Fans packed into the massive o2 Arena will be treated to what promises to be an immense show. That they're celebrating 'Hunting Party' with their friends Of Mice And Men in support could spark the Park into having one of the best tours in their history. You don't want to miss it.
