Major Lazer at Manchester Academy
Major Lazer first rose to prominence with their electronic hip-hop beats in 2009, spearheaded by the singles ‘Pon De Floor’, ‘Hold The Line’ and ‘When You Hear The Bassline’, which were all widely heard on radio and on dance floors. Major Lazer was originally made up of the American/English DJ and production duo of Diplo and Switch, however the latter named left the group in 2011 to continue his solo efforts. Since first joining together, the duo had played on stage with many other guests, with Diplo recently recruiting Jillionaire and Walshey Fire to help with the production during live shows.
After side projects that include the production of Rita Ora’s album ‘Ora’ and working with other artists including No Doubt and Snoop Dogg, Major Lazer released their second album ‘Free The Universe’ in 2013, which was critically acclaimed and reached high positions in the UK and US charts, with ‘Get Free’ and ‘Jah No Partial’ being the LPs leading singles.
During the 2015 Grammy Award Ceremony, Diplo announced that there is a brand new Major Album in production that will be featuring a host of British and American artists including Pusha T, Ellie Goulding and Ariana Grade amongst others. ‘Peace is The Mission’ is due to be released on June the 1st, with the first two singles ‘Roll The Bass’ and ‘Night Riders’ having already been released.
Major Lazers’ 2015 tour in recognition of their new album will be taking off in October and will first visit Paris in France before stopping in Brussels, Berlin, Copenhagen and Stockholm before coming over to the UK where they will perform in Manchester on October 16th.
