Mary J Blige is not only the proud releaser of 13 studio albums; she is hailed as the most successful female artist from the past 25 years. Having collaborated with other influential and important artists on over 150 occasions, she is one of the music industry’s fondest figures, who started her journey in 1989 as backing vocalist for the music label Uptown Records.
Blige’s awards cabinet is heaving with important accolades that include nine Grammy Awards, which are furthered by a record breaking 30 nominations on top of this. Having sold over 50 million album copies worldwide, her works are some of the most popular ever in her genre, with the 1994 album ‘My Life’ being the standout LP in her collection. This particular album was voted as one of the best albums ever made by Rolling Stone Magazine and is one of the 9 albums that have received platinum awards
Mary’s most recent album ‘The London Sessions’ was recorded in the UK and hit the shelves in November of last year. Again being another celebrated long player in the songstress’ collection. The album welcomed a number of British artists who added their own contemporary flair to many of Blige’s tracks, some of which include Sam Smith, Disclosure and Emeli Sandé.
Mary J Blige will be embarking on ‘The London Sessions’ world tour in the coming months and will be playing a series of UK dates throughout July. On the 3rd of July she will be playing here at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena Academy.
