Ranked as the most successful female artist of the past 25 years, Mary J Blige started out as a backing vocalist for the record label Uptown Records in 1989 and has since become one of the most awarded artists in the world, one who has released 13 studio albums and featured on over 150 soundtracks and albums for many other industry greats.
As the recipient of nine Grammy Awards, aside from receiving a record breaking 30 Grammy nominations, her works have been praised by critics of all kinds, with her 1994 album ‘My Life’ being considered one of the greatest albums ever recorded. 9 of Mary’s 11 studio albums have gone platinum, selling over 50 million albums copies in total.
Mary J Blige’s most recent album ‘The London Sessions’ was released back in November and again received critical acclaim, being nominated one of the best albums of 2014. The LP features a number of British artists, some of which include Disclosure, Sam Smith and Emeli Sandé, pulling in a number of contemporary British styles to this great addition in her hugely commended discography.
In July, Mary will be embarking on the UK leg of her world tour, which the New Yorker begins in the next few months. On the 2nd of July, she will descend upon Manchester’s O2 Apollo for what promises to be a very special performance indeed.
