The masked musical maestro that is SBTRKT is bringing his live show to The O2 Academy Leeds on Friday the 26th of September. Since his early work in 2009 SBTRKT has taken his live project all around the world, and this year he is touring his new album ‘Wonder Where We Land’, calling at a number of UK festivals and high profile venues before taking himself around the US, starting in Atlanta and finishing up in Boston before returning to Europe.
Regularly collaborating with Sampha, SBTRKT’s live shows usually see the frontman donning acoustic and electronic drums, effects and synths all whilst Sampha provides vocals and further keyboard play. Taking inspiration from dub, indie and other electronic sounds, SBTRKT’s style is one that gives atmosphere and big beats, never afraid to bring in some glitchy pads and treated vocals. The visuals are also an important feat, with lighting and strobes completed by the view of the main mans mysterious mask, modelled on native ceremonial clothing.
SBTRKT’s first artist album received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, and placed in 2011’s Top 50 Albums at number 42 as well as winning DJ Mag’s Album Of The Year. Collaborations with Little Dragon, Jessie Ware and Roses Gabor were all seen on this album, and since then he has continued to release a string of strongly supported singles and EP’s that include remixes of Radiohead, Basement Jaxx, Underworld and M.I.A, most of which have received heavy radio airplay.
SBTRKT will be bringing his drums, keyboards, synths and a number of special guests to the O2 Academy on September the 26th, and as one of only 6 non festival performances in the UK this year, tickets will be under high demand.
