For a year he stopped earning money, turned his phone off, didn't speak to anyone, and just created new sounds. Redlight was born. Inspired by jungle's eclectic sample sources as much as by its rave energy, Hugh Pescod has managed to interweave the ethos of the underground and seamlessly tie that in with commercial success. This is a rare opportunity to catch an international artist performing in such intimate surroundings, and definitely one that won't be coming around again anytime soon.
Tuesday 5th March
10pm – 5am
With support from:
Mak and Pasteman
Tickets: £6, £8
Expect him to switch things up with a fusion of UK bass driven sounds seamlessly blended with house, garage and dubstep. Exploding on the scene primarily with his 2009 Rock the House and Lobster Boy EP, the Bristolian producer very quickly made a mark for himself in the bass scene. With early work also collaborating with, and producing for, Roses Gabor and Ms Dynamite, Redlight showed he was more than capable of creating heavy dance floor driven cuts. Source 16 remains a standout track for 2011, as does the absolutely huge Get Out My Head last year. Breaking through to the UK charts with two top 10 singles, spearheading the forward thinking Lobster Boy label and with an album confirmed this year, his unique fusion of melodies and bass driven sounds is certainly set to continue.
From the brilliant ‘The Window’ to the infectious ‘Forget The Girl’, Route 94 has soared straight to the forefront of the scene with support from Skream and Benga, rumours of collaborations in the studio with New York Transit Authority and affiliations and mentions from producer’s right left and centre. The mysterious identity of the illusive character is certainly one talking point, but more importantly we’re hard pushed to find a track that doesn’t go off. Expect no different from this debut Leeds set.
Mak and Pasteman
No introduction needed for Leeds advocates Mak & Pasteman. Taking ground across the clubs and soundsystems of Leeds, bass-duo Mak & Pasteman have garnered serious respect throughout clubland. Releasing across labels including Shifting Peaks, Senseless Records & Sounds of Sumo they’ve laid down the foundations for a future sound. Hyped to welcome these guys back to Metropolis for this intimate mid week session.
