Neil Diamond is widely regarded as one of the most popular artists on a worldwide scale, not to mention being one of the best selling artists of all time with album sales amounting to over 125 million. Proceeding only Elton John and Barbra Streisand in the running of the most successful adult contemporary artists, I think it is safe to say Diamond is a true legend in the worldwide music scene.
The 1960’s saw the beginning of Neil Diamond’s music career, and stretching from his first album ‘The Feel Of Neil Diamond’ to the (now second) most recent LP ‘Dreams’, Diamond has picked up a huge number of platinum and gold certifications, aside from his 10 number one singles that have spread over a number of years. The most popular of his long players is probably the 1980’s soundtrack to the film ‘The Jazz Singer’, which Diamond himself starred in, this itself went platinum 5 times.
October 21st saw Neil Diamond release his brand new album on Capitol Records, his 32nd album that is already being dubbed “one of the very finest in his singular body of work”. The 12-track LP titled ‘Melody Road’ is the first solo studio album to be released on Capitol, and is co-produced by revered producers Don Was and Jacknife Lee, who have in the past produced work for many other reputable bands and solo artists including The Rolling Stones and U2. The album will also include a pull out book containing lyrics and guitar chords to all the tracks, a great feature for budding artists who want to try out playing or singing Diamond’s brand new tracks.
The release of ‘Melody Road’ will be followed by a worldwide tour that is due to kick off at the beginning of next year, with the first of the dates taking place in America, at many iconic venues such as Chicago’s United Center, Boston’s TD Garden and The Pepsi Center in Denver. This will be preceded by a handful of UK dates that will take place in Manchester, London, Glasgow and this date at The LG Arena Birmingham on Saturday the 11th of July. Due to there only being a few dates in the UK for Neil, these tickets will be under high demand, so we recommend snapping them up quick.
