Fresh from the astoundingly ridiculous all night set with one of the best in the business, Floating Points, One Night With… is extremely proud to bring back such a highly esteemed label that encapsulates everything that is so perfect about the modern techno sound…OSTGUT TON.
This time we have two artists that have been pushing the boundaries for quite some time now with their innovative take on electronic music. Fusing classic Chicago and Detroit connections with their own weird and wonderful creative influences.
MARTYN (3024 / Ninja Tune / Ostgut Ton)
This chap needs no introduction to anyone who has a high tendency for innovative electronic music. Since relocating to Washington, DC, Matrijn Deykers AKA Martyn has just about covered every base when it comes to modern contemporary dance music. He started way back in 2005 releasing some of the quirkiest drum & bass on Marcus Intalex’s Revolve:R imprint as well as Play:musik & Bassbin. Give it a few years and Martyn had began to fuse the modern elements of the bass music invasion with his own weird and wonderful ideas which gave way to his debut LP ‘Great Lengths’, a foray into the dubby, deep, ambient sounds that were doing the rounds as genres merged and artists took dubstep and techno to new found plains. The inception of his debut album on his own imprint, 3024, really set the stage for Martyn and his own electronic explorations as he has continued to warp genres and merge sounds that few can even dream about. Since his debut he has released 2 other critically acclaimed albums, ‘Ghost People’ on Fly Lo’s Brainfeeder and more recently ‘The Air Between Words’ on the UK stalwart Ninja Tune. A back catalogue the size of a small aircraft hanger including labels such as Ostgut Ton, NonPlus, Tectonic, Dolly Dubs and Monkeytown means we are in for an undeniably sweet treat as Ostgut Ton return for one more night…
VIRGINA (Ostgut Ton / Panorama Bar / Underground Quality)
Not just a DJ, Virginia is just as adept when it comes to signing, songwriting and producing as she has shown over the course of the last decade with her residencies at Tobi Neumann’s Flokati and Sven Vath’s Cocoon Club. Originally hailing from Munich, Virginia’s infatuation with the late 80s and early 90s analogue sounds have been a mainstay in her own productions which has seen her release her own full length LP on Rough Trade in 2008, Twisted Mind’, as well as kicking it with the big guns on some of the scene’s finest imprints including Underground Quality, as well as Ostgut Ton alongside Panorama Bar mainstay Steffi. Her voice is second to none in terms of soulful goodness and haunting melodies and it is for just that reason that she has been at the top of her game for the last few years…her DJ sets are something quite different, but in the best possible way!
