Ordinary Friends presents nd_baumecker [Osgut Ton]
First up, a massive thank you to everybody that made it down to the White Hotel on Friday for what was our first ever sold out show; you dancers really do make it all feel worthwhile for us.
We’re sure you’ll all agree that we kicked off our 2018 series of parties in typical hedonistic fashion. Many thanks must also go to Kornél who absolutely smashed it. Next up, it’s with utmost pleasure that we announce the mighty nd_baumecker as the next guest to grace the decks of our beloved White Hotel.
Having been selected for the Black Madonna’s XOYO residency, and featuring on Berghain’s 60 hour New Year’s marathon alongside previous Ordinary Friends guest Gideön, the Ostgut Ton mainstay could be described as a true DJ’s DJ, with a rumoured 20,000 vinyl records in his collection. Further slots on events curated by Jackmaster and Bicep provide further proof as to the high regard he is held by some of dance music’s elite.
Andreas has done it all. Starting his DJ career on the local Frankfurt scene way back in 1991, he has since had stints working in record stores (Frankfurt’s Delirium Record Store), promoting his own club night (Heidelberg based HD800), running his own label (Freundinnen) and more recently holding down a role as the head of programming at Panorama Bar. He has somehow managed to juggle all of this with DJ bookings at some of the biggest parties and festivals across Europe and further afield. Away from his busy DJing schedule, ND also makes up half of live Techno duo Barker & Baumecker, alongside Leisure System co-founder and resident Sam Barker. The pairing’s hardware driven sound has so far yielded two albums, Transsektoral and Turns, both of which have been released on Ostgut Ton and focus on a more raw percussive and synth laden sound.
But it’s his efforts as a DJ that we were first drawn to ND’s abilities. Whilst maintaining an uplifting mood throughout, the vinyl enthusiast weaves effortlessly (and gloriously) between styles and genres, the calibre of his sets epitomised by standout mixes at the likes of NYC Downlow.
This will be a Manchester debut for the Berghain & Panorama Bar resident, and as a fine exponent of an anything goes attitude towards DJing and the dancefloor, be expected to hear Disco, House, Techno, Electro and everything in between. You could say that what nd_baumecker doesn’t know about dance music, isn't worth knowing!
‘Surprise is important. The field of experimentation is the dance floor, and once you have it, you can do almost anything with it’. Let's become a part of his dancefloor experiment.
As is custom on the night support comes from the Ordinary Friends crew, who’ll sandwich the headline set with the usual dose of dark sleazy house, left-field disco, and the far reaches of Detroit techno.
As always we’ll see you down the front!
+ Massive shouts to Nosebig Studio for the amazing artwork once again!
