SJM Concerts and Metropolis Music present Placebo at O2 Academy Leeds
Plus Special Guests
Forming in 1994, Placebo are the British rock band who have maintained a very healthy reputation throughout their 7 albums and heap of singles, the first of which was released back in 1994. The entirety of their back catalogue has been very successful, with many singles having reached high chart positions, not to mention the fact that all of their seven studio albums have gained at least a gold certification one country.
Placebo’s eponymous debut album hit the shelves in June 1996, climbing to number 5 in the album chart as well as hitting platinum in the UK and France. Most well known for the singles ‘Nancy Boy’ and ’36 Degrees’, the self-titled album gained the 154th spot on Virgin’s ‘All-Time Top 1000 Albums’, bringing together late 70’s prog rock, industrial Chicago sounds and misgiving lyrics that are conveyed by lead singer and guitarist Brian Molko.
After their most recent album was released last year, receiving good reviews from artists and going gold in both Austria and Germany, Placebo have now announced that they will be embarking on a UK and Ireland tour in 2015, which will consist of 18 dates, starting off at Dublin’s Olympia and finishing in Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo in London. Known for their androgynous shows that explore drugs and LGBT themes, they are a controversial yet widely revered group whose live performances are not one you should miss.
On the 9th of March, Placebo’s UK tour will be stopping off in Leeds at the O2 Academy, just of Millennium square. The gothic, church like venue has been a haven for rock music fans since it reopened under O2 a few years ago and it a perfect place for Placebo to extend their musical thanks.
