[Houndstooth / Dekmantel]
Call Super is a DJ and musician from London who has, over the last two years, quietly carved out his own unique place in the landscape of electronic music. In 2013 his 12" The Present Tense was the launching point for Houndstooth, the newly established label arm of London’s Fabric nightclub. He followed this up with two highly regarded releases before delivering his debut album Suzi Ecto, which has been widely regarded as one of the standout electronic LP’s in recent years. Described by Pitchfork as "the most evocative sound world that the genre has seen this year", it was placed at number one in the 2014 end of year album charts of both XLR8R and Juno Plus magazine.
2015's 'Migrant' continued Call Super's knack of producing absolute gold and the title track was undoubtedly one of the best tunes of the year (https://soundcloud.com/houndstoothlbl/call-super-migrant-houndstooth). Now, in 2016, we've already seen the release of the 'Nervous Sex Traffic' - a dance record with a contaminated bliss, which comes from its clever contrasts. Though Seaton's drums are jarring, other ingredients are more fragile and nuanced. Beneath the title track's sickly synth hums and harmonies that drift in and out of key, cheap metal FX rustle and fidget. "Nervous Sex Traffic"'s misaligned sounds are entrancing, even as they portray an unstable moment of dance floor revelry. (https://soundcloud.com/dkmntl/dkmntl033-call-super-nervous-sex-traffic).
A deft ability to craft sets known for their hypnotic intensity and musical breadth has brought him across the world and seen him develop a travelling residency of extended sets alongside Objekt. This expertise is showcased monthly on his show for Berlin Community Radio, and in much loved mixes recorded for Boiler Room, Dekmantel, FACT, RA, BBC Radio 1 and XLR8R, amongst others.
[Pretty Pretty Good / Radar Radio]
Triple Point has been making a real name for himself since he started DJing here in Sheffield over 4 years ago. He's now played in cities up and down the country including London, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham in support of acts such as Swindle, Hessle Audio, Elijah & Skilliam and Mumdance to name just a few. He has recently landed himself a residency on the very well respected Radar Radio and also completed an internship at Phonica Records, which has been key in him developing both his knowledge and his record collection! He also heads up the new and forward thinking label and club night Lazerpiff, who's recent booking have included Novelist and Last Japan. Now living in London, and fresh from his debut appearance at Corsica Studios, he is honing his skills as producer too. He was unbelievable when he supported Midland in April for us, so it's a pleasure to bring Triple Point back to Sheffield to warm up with two hour B2B set with Smorsli. Check out his mix below for a taste of what's to expect.
[Pretty Pretty Good]
Thrillhouse co-founder, head honcho, and all round good guy Smorsli knows how to get a crowd dancing. He'll be opening up for us on this occasion, B2B with Triple Point, and will as always be showing off his full repertoire of emotional and forward thinking tunes. He's supported Palms Trax, Midland, Randomer, FunkinEven, Tessela and Hodge in recent months as well as appearing alongside Ben Klock, Carl Craig and Levon Vincent at Hope Works. This will also be his first PPG set since officially joining the team, so expect tears in abundance!
[Pretty Pretty Good]
Yak is a DJ who can smash you over the head repeatedly and yet leave you wanting more. He's about more than just that though, and increasingly you'll find him weaving around the entirety of the electronic and bass music spectrum to get any dancefloor bouncing. Yak the producer is also finding some real momentum and already has his debut EP out on Circular Jaw, with more releases on their way on the Classical Trax and eatmybeat imprints. He's receiving airplay all over the place too, from NTS and Rinse FM to Berlin Community Radio and BBC Radio 1Xtra, with heavy support coming from the likes of Loefah, Madam X, DJ Barely Legal, Paleman, Klose One and more.
He's supported Palms Trax, Ejeca, Dark Sky, XXXYand many other over the past year, as well as featuring alongside Evian Christ, Submotion Orchestra, James Holden & Lapalux at Tramlines Festival. Yak is a man who lives and breathes for his craft and we're tipping him to go far. He'll be closing out the night in B2B fashion with Kudan.
[Pretty Pretty Good]
PPG owner, co-founder and resident Kudan has been demonstrating his skills behind the decks more and more over the last few months. He's already secured sets at Hope Works, The Harley, The Tuesday Club and Trafalgar Warehouse, supporting the likes of Floating Points, Ben UFO, Pearson Sound and Palms Trax. He isn't really a DJ but, with possibly the greatest selection of anyone ever, that doesn't stop him from being totally sick.
