Idle Hands is a Bristol-based record label set up in 2009 by Chris Farrell, who in his younger life worked at Rooted, Replay, and Imperial, among others. He launched the label to champion and release experimental House and Techno, predominantly from the hotbed of local talent to be found in the blossoming Bristol production scene. With releases from the likes of Peveralist, Kowton, Om Unit, Shanti Celeste, Bruce, Matt Karmil and previous guests Facta and Alex Coulton, the Idle Hands discography (36 releases to date) boasts an unbelievable amount of quality!
In 2011 Chris bravely decided to help stop the rot in Bristol by opening a record shop of his own, and since then both strands of the Idle Hands brand have gone from strength to strength. The shop is located on Stokes Croft which is the creative centre of the city and is also close to the former Rooted premises. Inside you'll find everything from House and Techno to Dubstep, Grime, Reggae and anything in between. Oh, and a tinny too! The vibe feels like much less of a retail spot and a lot more like Chris’ living room, which it sort of is. It's well worth a visit if you're ever in Bristol.
When DJing, Chris Farrell has his focus on House, Techno, Bass and Dub, but his record collection spans every other genre you could possibly think of, meaning you're never sure what to expect next! From the rarest unkown old records to the freshest new dubplates and unreleased tracks, he's got all the variety and skill to surprise you constantly while also keeping everyone in the room perfectly locked in.
Running the Idle Hands label and shop means that he doesn't have the time to play out as much as he would like, and so he selects his gigs very carefully. We're therefore extremely honoured that he's found the time to come up to Sheffield and play for us! This is not one to miss!
Sam Hall is a 24 year old DJ from Bristol. Born in Liverpool, he moved to Bristol at an early age, surrounding himself with the exciting musical culture that the city has to offer. Through a passion for electronic music, Sam eventually found his niche in the genres of House and Techno. This led him to develop a keen interest in old classic records while also keeping up to date with modern day releases. His sets consist of a variety of these two genre, with strong influences taken from Chicago, Detroit, Berlin and the UK.
Through his work at the Idle Hands store (which boasts the likes of Shanti Celeste, Outboxx and Rhythmic Theory as former employees) and through immersing himself in the scene he loves, Sam has managed to gain a special insight and understanding. With a reputation for an extensive knowledge of the music he plays, Sam has established a keen following throughout the South West and further afield, and regularly plays gigs around the UK and abroad. He's definitely a young DJ to keep a close eye on!
[Pretty Pretty Good]
Thrillhouse co-founder, head honcho, and all round good guy Smorsli knows how to get a crowd dancing. He'll be opening up for us on this occasion, and will as always be showing off his full repertoire of emotional and forward thinking tunes. He's supported Palms Trax, Midland, Randomer, FunkinEven, Tessela and Hodge in recent months as well as appearing alongside Ben Klock, Carl Craig and Levon Vincent at Hope Works. Expect a dancefloor filled with tears!
