ReWind 1st Birthday | Badass UK Garage at Wire | 07.11.12
2-Step : 4x4 : Bass : House
After a memorable year bringing the sounds of UKG back into the clubs of Leeds, and a sell-out launch for the new term last month ReWind is back to do what we do best - throwing down the best old-school classics and underground sounds of what the kids are calling "Garage Music of the United Kingdom"....and guess what? Its our 1st BIRTHDAY! Thats right, ReWind is now nearly as old as residents Chalet + Whistleblowa, and we're gonna party like its 1999(ish)...
From Artful Dodger to Zed Bias and everything in between, our residents and guests will take you back to an era before dubstep, electro and TOWIE when Garage reigned supreme!
Expect smooth Garage licks and filthy basslines; badass riddims and booty-shakin' beats - all thrashed out in the intimate surroundings of Wire on their Funktion One Soundsytem. Throw in ReWind's legendary visuals and you've got a wednesday night that you're going to remember!
From the early 90s sounds that inspired UKG, through the twisted genres that it later spawned; ReWind is Leeds' only midweek night dedicated to all things Garage!
As it's our Birthday, we've got a secret SPECIAL GUEST lined up to be announced closer to the event....
● Hillsy D -
AKA Dan Hills, a legend on the Leeds Scene (and further afield), in part because of his fast mixing and music knowledge, but also partly because of the force with which he punches the wall every time there is big drop. Expect pandemonium...
● Chalet + Whistleblowa -
Originally called "Youngsta and Youngman" because of their youthful innocence, until they were sued by Youngsta and Youngman in consecutive court cases. Since then, they have carved out quite a niche playing vinyl only old-skool sets, supporting the likes of DJ EZ and Wookie, and being booked for events as far-reaching as mono_cult and Dilation. However, ReWind is their home, and due to bad behaviour, they are currently grounded.
● Heartstealer -
Resident at ReWind since day 1, and still stealing the hearts of many a girl (and a small but statistically significant number of boys), Hearstealer has "UKG" tatooed on his lower back and its easy to see why...playing the smoothest and sexiest licks the late 90s has to offer, alongside the freshest futuristic beats and bleeps, its easy to see why Mixmag has described him as "pretty friendly, but not in a gay way".
