Simple Things Festival is a one-day celebration of electronic and alternative music, which first took place in the heart of Bristol some years ago. Now, the festival has expanded to Scotland, and this year Simple Things will be hosting a one-day event at the O2 ABC, which will be playing host to an innovative, exciting and adventurous line up, curated by the Simple Things team.
Headlining the first Glasgow instalment of Simple Things will be the formidable IDM duo Autechre. Forming all the way back in 1987, Autechre have been responsible for a littering of driving electronic tracks that usually boast complex rhythm and influences from techno, house and hip-hop. Speaking of hip-hop, next up on the bill is Nightmares On Wax, the DJ from Leeds whose seminal DJ mixes and innovative music label, Wax On, have been spearheading the evolution of cutting edge electronic music for years. As well as the label that now has a series of EP’s, LP’s and compilations, this year NoW has had a residency on the white isle of Ibiza at the new home of Las Dalias, where week in week out guests join the main man himself for an evening and night of incessant music. The final headliner for Simple Things Glasgow is Berlin based Clark, whose breakbeat techno has given him releases on Warp Records and Ninja Tune amongst others.
Simple Things Festival will also be host to a plethora of other electronic and alternative music artists from Glasgow and around the world, playing everything from house through to techno and disco to electronica. Some of the highlights include Glasgow’s own Machines In Heaven, Atom Tree, Those Vitamins and Joe Howe, as well as well established performers like Los Angeles’ Seven Davis Jr., whose popular remixes on Ninja Tune and Aus Music have done major damage on dance floors in recent months. Further tips include The Haxan Cloak, Actress, Dean Blunt and Lone Feat. Konx-on-Pax. Lone in particular has some very impressive releases already in circulation on a selection of great house music labels including R&S Records and Magic Wire amongst others.
Joining these guys will also be the talented Lucky Me along with LUMA, Vitamins, Hookworms, Eauz, General Ludd, Slow Revolt, Mermaids, Kogumza, Sad City, Handpicked and even more that are to be announced over the next few weeks.
The O2 ABC that will be hosting this devilishly good evening is renowned for booking the best live bands and solo artists from the world over, not to mention a great series of electronic based events. Recently, the likes of 808 State, The Asian Dub Foundation, Method Man and Public Enemy have played in the spacious surroundings, and now it’s the turn of the Simple Things Festival to fill the O2 ABC’s hall with worldwide sounds.
