SHERWOOD AND PINCH
Saturday 13th June 2015 - KOKO London
Congo Natty is revered as one of the most influential figures in the junglist movement, which began with his label X Project. Congo Natty rose through creating his own sound system, Beat Freak, at aged 20 to releasing some of the most creative music the world had seen, quoting that jungle music was the journey and soul of African slaves. Taking the bass from roots and dub reggae to reinvent a new genre, Congo Natty’s vinyl only DJ sets are lively and emphatic, clashing jungle classics with new material that demonstrates how jungle has maintained its prominence in modern music.
Congo Natty will be appearing at KOKO in London as part of Soundcrash’s new series of events that sees legends from the worlds of dub, jungle, drum & bass and more taking to some of the greatest music venues and clubs throughout the capital, including Village Underground, The Roundhouse and on boat parties across the Thames. Soundcrash will also be making appearances at Citadel and Soundwave Festival in Victoria Park and in the Croatian province of Tisno.
Congo Natty will be joined on stage by Congo Dubz, Phoebe and Nanci who will be working the mic and performing live PA’s. There will also be an exclusive collaborative performance by dubstep pioneers Sherwood and Pinch, who, like Congo Natty, ignored the mainstream sound to create a new genre. This sound can be heard on Pinch’s Tectonic label, which has release music from the likes of Peverelist, 2562, Mumdance, Jakes and Roska. Metalheadz staple OM Unit will also be playing, as well as a further musical innovator in DJ Krust, who has had a big influence on the drum & bass scene.
Altogether, this show at KOKO in London’s Camden Town will see performances from some of the most innovative and important artists in sound system culture and the music that so vividly represents it.
