The Gig Cartel presents UFO
The Gig Cartel presents UFO at O2 Academy Leeds
UFO is the English heavy metal band that has come back for more after the release of their 20th studio album that landed in 2012. After a huge discography that has brought us many classic rock tracks, the band will be appearing at The O2 Academy Leeds on Sunday April 26th in 2015. First forming in 1969, UFO were a group who transitioned between heavy metal and hard rock throughout their first few singles, and came to international stardom after the 18 year old Michael Schenker was recruited as the groups new guitarist in the June of 1973. Following this new addition the albums ‘Force It’ and ‘No Heavy Petting’ gave the band a lot of exposure in the USA, also increasing their following back on home turf through hit singles like ‘Lights Out’, ‘Too Hot To Handle’ and ‘Only You Can Rock Me’.
For many groups who have had the success that UFO has had, it would be an easy option to simply sit on their laurels and maybe release the odd best of album to gain some more royalties. UFO however, is a group of artists who thrive off the continuation of their music, and their 20th album ‘Seven Deadly’ was met with more positive reviews and stand out tracks such as the opening ‘Fight Night’ and the bluesy ‘Year Of The Gun’. This album demonstrates even further that UFO is a band that will not give up their honest and well played music that has set them amongst the top rock artists in the world.
The O2 Academy in Leeds has been host to many great classic and modern rock bands of many styles and sounds, with the likes of Thin Lizzy, Rob Zombie, The Stranglers and The Damned having played this year amongst a plethora of others. Set inside a gothic, church-like building, it is a standout grade II listed structure that resides just of Millennium Square in the centre of the city. With a large main room that boasts original décor and a seated balcony it provides many angles from where you will able to see watch the talents of UFO on Sunday the 26th of April 2015.
