On Tuesday the 4th of November, iconic reggae band The Wailers will be descending upon the O2 Academy Leeds for a gig during which they will be bringing back the best selling ‘Legend’ album and performing it in it’s entirety. There will also be a selection of special guests joining The Wailers who are yet to be announced.
1963 was the year in which legendary singer and songwriter Bob Marley put together The Wailers with fellow musicians Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. The definitive line up disbanded in 1974, however Marley continued touring with a new set of individuals under the same name with himself as a guitarist. 1981 was the year in which the influential artists unfortunately died, nevertheless The Wailers, led on by Junior Marvin and Aston Barrett, helped the bands name live on through touring around north America, today expanding into other countries including the UK, where their 2014 Legend Tour will take place. ‘Legend’ is Bob Marley and The Wailers fabled long player, released in 1984 that has sold over 13 million copies worldwide, dubbing it the number one selling reggae album of all time. The album contains profound singles such as ‘Get Up, Stand Up’, ‘Redemption Song’, ‘I Shot The Sherriff’ and ‘Is This Love’ amongst a plethora of other memorable tracks. Altogether, this album can be treasures as one of the best of all time, and can also be praised for gaining 59 Platinum grade certifications across 11 countries.
In Leeds, The O2 Academy is one of the most prestigious venues when it comes to live music in the city centre, hosting hugely varied acts, popular club nights and also being part in the annual Live At Leeds Festival. The likes of Johnny Marr, Counting Crows, Paloma Faith, Sam Smith and The Specials are due to play throughout the rest of the summer and autumn, and The Wailers appearance on the 4th of November will be a gig you will likely remember for the rest of your life.
