Legendary reggae band The Wailers will be playing a special one night only show at The Ritz in Manchester where they will be performing their ‘Legend’ album in its entirety, joined by a number of special guests who are yet to be announced.
First forming in 1963, The Wailers were a band put together by the one and only Bob Marley, as well as Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh. The original band broke up in 1974 however the name continued with a new set of individuals who begun touring with Marley as a guitarist. After his death in 1981, The Wailers were led by Aston Barrett and Junior Marvin who continued to tour around the north of the US, now expanding to the rest of the world where they will now embark on their 2014 Legend Tour. ‘Legend’ is the 1984 greatest hits album by Bob Marley and The Wailers, a long player that has sold over 13 million copies worldwide, resulting in it being dubbed the best-selling reggae album of all time. Containing superb hits such as ‘Is This Love’, ‘Get Up, Stand Up’, ‘I Shot The Sheriff’ and ‘Redemption Song’, ‘Legend’ can be towered high as one of the greatest albums of all time, and can also be revered for having 59 Platinum certifications across 11 countries.
Amongst Manchester’s most prestigious and iconic music venues, The Ritz lies at a high position as it has been a popular venue for live music and clubbing since its opening in 1927. Since its first days as a classical music venue, The Ritz has held events with a plethora of great live bands and DJs like Snow Patrol, The Arctic Monkeys, R.E.M, The Smiths, The Beatles and The Stone Roses. Now, on Thursday the 6th of November, The Wailers will be adding to this eclectic list of performers who Manchester’s The Ritz has played host to.
