Classic English heavy metal band UFO has come back around for more after their 20th studio album hit the shelves a few years ago in 2012. Celebrating an enormous discography that has brought us a heap of classic rock tracks, UFO will be making a special appearance at Manchester’s The Ritz on Sunday the 19th of April 2015. The band first formed back in 1969 and was a group who tended to transition between hard rock and heavy metal, a change that was apparent through their first few singles. UFO came to international fame after the bands addition of a new guitarist, Michael Schenker, in 1973. Following this recruitment their next albums ‘No Heavy Petting’ and ‘Force It’ boosted the bands fan base in the US and also increased their popularity back home through the album’s lead singles such as ‘Too Hot To Handle’, Lights Out’ and ‘Only You Can Rock Me’.
As with many groups who have achieved stardom for so many years, it would be easy for UFO to sit on their laurels and release a best of album every now and again to make some more money from royalties. This band in particular however is one that thrives off knowing that their music in continuing and evolving instead of remaining samey. Their 20th album ‘Seven Deadly’ was welcomed by yet more positive reviews, with tracks such as ‘Year Of The Gun’ and ‘Fight Night’ proving as the highlights.
The Ritz in Manchester has long been an iconic venue to witness both modern and classic artists spread widely over the music spectrum. Having been host to great rock bands like Rob Zombie, Thin Lizzy and The Stranglers, the grade II listed building will be a great setting for UFO to come back and do what they do best on the 19th of April.
