Untitled 003 / Moomin, Matt Long & Kahwe
Moomin (Smallville / Aim / DE) Leeds Debut
Matt Long (Fina Records / Mono_cult)
After our last two parties we've decided to go for something a bit different for 003 and we are very pleased to announce that Berlin resident Moomin, mono_cult's Matt Long & our ever present Kahwe will be looking after the music for our next party.
Moomin, like the little swedish cartoon characters, is simply a music lover. Unlike the cartoon characters however Moomin, Sebastian Genz, creates beautifully crafted and layered music full of soul and emotion. His roots go deep, back to his childhood when he would record mixes on an old tape deck: collections of funk, jazz and hip hop sampled from the radio. With a love for hip-hop, citing Lord Finesse & Grand Puba as early production influences, Genz made the transition to electronic music at the turn of the century, and in 2007 moved to Berlin.
Since then Genz has made an indelible mark on the capital’s sprawling club scene, with sets at Panorama Bar, Watergate and Tresor to name just a few. Internationally playing further afield with DJ and live sets in London, New York and Tokyo. Creating the Moomin moniker with releases alongside pal Oskar Offermann in 2010, 2011 saw the release of the debut album " The Story About You" released on Smallville Records. Here Genz created a record filled with cyclical chords, overlapping chimes and swan-like elegance throughout.
2012 led to the start of his collaborative project, 'Roaming' with Christopher Rau, whose EP, live and DJ sets have already received widespread praise and recognition. We look forward to being a part of his 2013.
Matt Long started Leeds institution mono_cult back in 2007 with several other friends throwing parties on a Sunday at venues across Leeds. Since their inception just over 6 years ago Matt has played alongside the likes of Agnes to Henrik Schwarz, John Roberts to Motor City Drum Ensemble and Theo Parrish to Wbeeza. Aside from mono_cult Matt also runs Fina Records alongside Simon Morrell and 2020 Vision boss Ralph Lawson and has played at festivals such as Sonar, Barcelona and Hideout, Croatia.
Again we welcome back Kahwe to warm up and warm down the decks, with adequate stretching advised. The youngster, Joe Cowie, who as part of Transmission Collective has started a monthly residency at Shoreditch's Catch, has had his own productions recently spark interest from the likes of Gerd, Kerri Chandler, Bondax, Ben Pearce, DJ Caspa and beyond. His recently released EP on Anjunadeep has received rave reviews from the likes of Resident Advisor.
With all this musical talent, an incredible Funktion-One sound system at Beat Bar and our great crowd we look forward to Untitled 003!
