Grime star Wiley has been in the music limelight for a number of years. As a solo artist and as the founding member of the grime crew Roll Deep, he has released a long line of singles, many of which have entered the charts at high positions, with ‘Heatwave’ becoming his first ever UK number 1. Wiley will be playing a one night only gig at The Institute’s Library on December the 18th.
Wiley’s first single that sent him from the underground grime scene whirling to mainstream success was the 2008 hit ‘Wearing My Rolex’. Sampling DSK’s ‘What Would We Do’, Wiley fabricated a “grime meets electro” hit that rocketed to number 2 on the UK chart, also sending him to fame in other parts of the world. To this year, Wiley had already released a huge 9 studio albums, however his tenth, ‘Snakes And Ladders’ is now in production and expected to be released in the coming months.
A number of singles from the forthcoming album have already been released, including ‘Flyin’ and the brand new single ‘On A Level’. Released on Big Dada, and produced by long time collaborator Skepta, it sees Wiley return to his root style that could be heard on his early white labels. The single is projected to do well in the charts, and we could very well see even more exciting new material before this gig in December.
