Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE, DE)
Braiden (Rush Hour, UK)
We're back and feelin' minty fresh for the start of 2013. With the German hotshot Motor City Drum Ensemble rescheduled after his unfortunate cancellation last February, plus UK hotshot Braiden in town, we're kicking the new year off nicely. This party is also a winter warm up for our debut event at Snowbombing Festival in Austria this April. Ice ice baby.
Drumming since he was 6, producing since he was 11 and releasing since he was 16, it's fair to say that Danillo is a natural. Inspired heavily by jazz, soul, funk and hip hop in his early days, he was back then a prominent member of the nu jazz community, championed by the likes of Giles Peterson and Benji B. It wasn't until 2008 that he started making house music, under his new moniker Motor City Drum Ensemble.
He exploded onto the deep house scene with 5 releases that year; the legendary 'Raw Cuts' series. A collection of masterful 12 inchers, they oozed 90s Chicago house influences, sampling old soul and disco records with aplomb, firmly putting him on the map. As a remixer he's re-worked tracks by DJ Sprinkles, Caribou, Jazzanova and many more, in fact he has released on over 25 labels since he broke through, testament to this guys skills behind a mixing desk.
He's equally accomplished working a dance floor too, his technical ability and vast and diverse musical taste have taken him all over the globe to showcase his turntable skills, playing the premier venues and festivals all over the world. Watch out, he's gonna take Mint Club's roof clean off!
Underground selector and Red Bull Music Academy graduate Braiden is next up, keen to have as good a year as he did in 2012. He was a guest at the London leg of our 5th birthday, and blew Brixton apart with his 3 deck trickery. A recent excellent Rush Hour release added to his debut on Joy O's Doldrums imprint last year firmly cemented his reputation as a great producer as well as a wicked DJ. His sets are expansive, with a subtle element of surprise, expect to hear house, techno disco and glitch thrown in for good measure. We love tuning into his fortnightly radio show on NTS and look forward to welcoming him to Leeds to do his thing.
We've got a good feeling about 2013 so keep in touch, we've got some big things coming up.
