selective hearing leeds presents: we are four part two w/ trus'me & vakula + ste roberts & kahwe
Manchester local, Trus’me runs and owns the Prime Numbers imprint, which founded in 2008 has released music from the likes of; Move D, Tales Of Us, MCDE, Truss, Slam, Spencer Parker, Ben Klock, DVS1 & Actress, to name but a select handful...not bad, not bad at all. Its not just the fine tuning and brilliant curaiton of his label that he is known, and acclaimed for, but his own productions have long caused a stir, with names such as Juan Atkins, Giles Peterson & Chez Damier notable admirers. With a 2007 album, entitled ‘Work Nights’ released on Manchesters Fat City Records, Trus’me soon stamped his name into the echelons of Manchesters vibrant musical herritidge. In 2009, his much anticipated follow up album, ‘In The Red’, featuring the likes of Damier, Dam Funk & The Amp Fiddle, only further cemented his place in the global house scene, with non stop tours of Asia, Australia, South, Central & North America, and with remixes for the likes of MCDE, Damier, Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir and more, its no wonder this Manucnian is held in such high regard.
He comes to play Selective Hearing for the first time, and we can’t wait to hear him spin, known for his eclectic, thoughtful sets, that drift between melodic techno and ambient house, he’s the perfect name to play along side our second guest, Ukraines finest export, Vakula.
This will be the second time we've asked Vakula, pronounced VA-COOL-AH (for anyone that cares) to come and dj for us in Leeds. Last time out he pulled 300 people down to The Garage for a midsummer party, this time it's birthday business, so our expectations are ten fold.
Vakulas take on house music is heavily influenced by the rich history of the genre, with subtle jazz touches multiplied by a unique and very personal attitude to sound design. Consequently Vakula became the first Ukrainian producer to hit the Resident Advisor series of podcasts with a mix consisting entirely of his own quality production.
Globally considered to be one of the deep house men of the moment, he has gradually established himself as Ukraine’s most demanded musical phenomenon. Konotop-native Mikhaylo Vityk gained international recognition in 2008 after a series of highly acclaimed releases on upfront electronic labels such as Meakusma, Dekmantel and authentic dj mixes filled with thick, fudgy analogue grooves and a crisp multi-layered rhythmic palette. He contrives his productions to blatantly project Ukrainian and Slavic identity into a Detroit state-of-mind musical context through analogue synths, drum machines and old-school vinyl records. With his own imprint Leleka, taking off, and a slew of multi-faceted house tracks released on Glasgows Firecracker Recordings, it's safe to say Vakula is steadily making a name for himself the world over.
Support on the night comes from our new resident, one third of Hypercolour, Ste Roberts, alongside Transmission Collective favourite, Kahwe.
