On Friday the 12th of November, the UKs leading party starters Vagabondz are hosting a pre-event for the mighty Freeze Fest; The only snow, ski and music festival hosted at the iconic Battersea Power Station. The pre-party itself will take place at Vauxhall's Fire & Lightbox, South London's leading nightclub featuring a large smoking garden complete with booths, bbq, bar and pool. The venue also boasts 6 Dance Arenas with fantastic lighting, full colour lasers and world class Flare Audio sound systems. To provide the soundtrack to this awesome setting, the Vagabondz team have put together a eclectic line-up that features some of the biggest names from the world of house, garage and UK bass. Topping the bill is Swamp81 label boss Loefah, who rose to fame as one of the leading pioneers of dubstep alongside the legendary DMZ collective. Though still part and parcel of DMZ, in 2009, he started Swamp81 which better reflected his developing direction in underground music. As "dubstep" grew further and further from its roots and became increasingly commercial, Loefah turned his attention to an emergent new hive of creativity to create the home label which has since gone from strength to strength with releases from the likes of Skream, Pinch, Ramadanman, Addison groove, Instra:mental, Boddika and FaultyDL. Next up is garage stalwart MJ Cole, intricate, heart-wrenching garage productions did more to link the abstract, avant-garde tendencies of the sound to the exploding mainstream scene than any other artists work. Releasing Sincere in 1998, an era-defining single that was both one of the biggest influences on 21st century British dance music, and an overground hit, MJ Cole went on to sign to Gilles Petersons Talkin Loud label where he put out Sincere the album; one of if not the defining garage full-length, and one that spawned the massive single Crazy Love. It was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Swiftly followed by the ever popular Dark Sky, a South London based duo -drawing influence from everything from original UK garage through to house, via jungle and disco. It wasn't long before their forward thinking outlook on production and DJing got noticed and their debut 12" was picked up by the Bristol imprint 'Black Acre.' The release was met by rave reviews which in turn led to remixes for The XX, Stateless, Delooze and more recently Kelis, Alpines and Ben Westbeech. Since then further releases have been signed with consistent success to Pictures Music, Blunted Robots and most recently Modselektor's imprint 50 Weapons. On top of all that, Deadboy will also be in attendance. Deadboy has been producing garage influenced tracks for many years, incorporating elements of house, R n B, dancehall, techno, funky, grime, bassline, and many other influences. His debut EP U Cheated came out on Well Rounded records at the end of 2009 and recieved a great response after being played by DJs such as Jackmaster, Oneman, Bok Bok, Joy Orbison, and many others, with Boomkat placing it at #26 in their end of year singles chart. A one sided 12" of If U Want Me is about to be released on Numbers, that has been regularly played by the above DJs and others such as Kode9, Ikonika, Modeselektor, Geeneus, Zinc, Martyn, and many more. In a short amount of time Deadboy has racked up DJ sets at venues such as Fabric and Plastic People, mixes for FACT magazine and Radio 1, and has forthcoming shows in Europe booked, playing a mix of new and old garage, UK funky, house, bassline, dancehall, and anything else. As it that wasn't enough, crossing the i's and dotting the t's will be the rising stars of house and 2-step, Hackman, Tessela and Lorca all currently making major moves in their own right. Friday the 12th of October is set to be a huge night, get your hands on a limited £8 early bird whilst you can.
