Common People occupies the May Bank Holiday by taking over Southampton Common and Oxford’s South Park at the end of May.
Pulling together contrasting artists together with a laissez-faire attitude towards convention or genre, Common People is a festival that has something for everyone. Filled out with entertainment of all kinds, the festival brings summer’s festivities to Oxford and Southampton courtesy of Bestival, with the parent festival’s eclectic musical policy being transferred down the bloodline to create two smaller festivals which are cut from the same fine cloth.
The setting in Oxford is photographers’ favourite South Park, which at its highest point looks out over the historic spires of the university and the beautiful town centre. Southampton Common makes a similarly unspoiled setting, with 326 acres of woodland, parkland, wetlands and other beautiful natural features, and the Southampton leg of the festival will be held at the area known as The Flats, based in the city centre.
