Kendal Calling 2018
Kendal Calling has resided at Lowther Park in the Lake District since 2009, however the festival has been running since back in 2006 when Pendulum and British Sea Power headlined the weekend. Winning coveted awards like ‘Best Small Festival’ and ‘Best Medium Festival’ as it grew, Kendal Calling became on of the North’s most popular venues for summer celebration.
In the past, Kendal Calling has had some great guests that have included Blondie, Dizzee Rascal, Mumford & Sons and Badly Drawn Boy amongst many others.
As well as the main stage, which has seen Frank Turner, The Doves and Public Enemy play to Kendal Calling’s crowds of thousands, there is also the ‘Calling Out’ arena that showcases the newest up and coming talent. This stage has seen London Grammar, The 1975 and Fenech Soler playing to more intimate crowds before going on to sell out venues all around the UK and worldwide. The Glow Tent at Kendal Calling is where all the electronic dance action occurs, where the likes of Erol Alkan, Andrew Weatherall, Skream and Krafty Kuts have all graced the stage since the beginning of Kendal Calling’s life.
Looking away from painstakingly good headliners and there is the Riot Jazz tent where fantastic rhythm and blues is the medicine that gets these dancers through the night. Aside from here there is also the Chai Wallah and House party areas which both boast amazing party atmospheres, as well as a diner, an ale festival and a wide selection of shops… The attractions at Kendal Calling are endless.
Over the years that Kendal Calling has been bringing great entertainment to the North, there have been several special world record achievements including the world record for the largest Superman gathering and the world’s largest mint cake. Who knows what crazy records could be broken this year at Kendal Calling?
