Sziget Festival 2020

Over the last quarter of a century, Budapest’s Sziget Festival has grown from student gathering to one of the biggest music festivals anywhere in the world.

Held over the course of a week on its own island in the middle of the Danube – Sziget being the Hungarian word for ‘island’ – the mammoth event welcomes more than 500,000 festival-goers each year for a spectacular musical and cultural celebration in the company of some of the world’s biggest names.

But beyond the lineup – which in recent years has featured the likes of Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys, Lan Del Rey and Muse – the festival also offers a sense of magical escapism, with plenty of other activities to get involved in once you step out of reality and onto the island that it calls home.
