Arts Club (Formerly East Village Arts Club) is a revered venue throughout the entire city of Liverpool’s music fans. Not only is it a regular stop for a large number of live music acts, it has also been home to two of the cities most famous underground clubbing institutions, Circus and Chibuku, amongst many other great nights. Throughout the autumn and winter months there is a string of happenings coming to the club in the form of reputable dance music tours, several high profile live bands and solo acts, and of course appearance from the aforementioned club nights Chibuku and Circus. This is a list put together of our Arts Club highlights that will be taking place over the next few months.
Saturday 20th September
Chibuku Reopening Party
Saturday 20th September sees one of the stalwarts of Liverpool's clubbing history, Chibuku Shake Shake return following a short summer hiatus with a heavy hitting lineup of all things UK house. Heading up the bill in the main room are bloggers, come producer/DJs Bicep with support from PBR Streetgang and resident Scott Lewis. Upstairs in the Loft, dubstep turned house and disco purveyor Skream is joined by Manchester sensation Ben Pearce and long time friend (and Magnetic Man associate) Artwork.
Saturday 27th September
Circus 12th Birthday
Liverpool’s most renowned clubbing institution Circus is nearing its birthday, and to celebrate the brand is inviting another selection of impressive DJs from across the house and techno spectrum to help see in what is no doubt going to be another great year of top quality parties. After their hugely acclaimed Boiler Room that took place at The Palm House last month, Circus will return to Arts Club where head honcho Yousef will once again lead proceedings, this month joined by MK, Hot Since 82, Cassy, Paul Woolford, wAFF and residents Lewis Boardman and Scott Lewis. Happy Birthday Circus.
Thursday 9th October
The week after will see hip-hop connoisseur and beat juggler DJ Yoda dropping in at Arts Club for one of his very special live audio visual performance that have become renowned around the world as a multi sensory musical treat. As the winner of a multitude of DJing awards that include DMC DJ Of The Year and Best UK Hip-Hop DJ, DJ Yoda has toured with the likes of drum & bass don Goldie and has recorded a plethora of mixtapes that often include imaginative mixes and music that will no doubt provoke fun on the dancefloor. Now with the incorporation of visuals, this show will be like nothing you have ever seen before, consequently leading to DJ Yoda being voted one of Q Magazine’s ’10 DJs To See Before You Die’.
Tuesday 14th October
Not so teenage dirtbags Wheatus will be the next picks for our Arts Club events this autumn, the New York based band who have rocked the charts in the UK for years with their huge selling single ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ and their cover of Erasure’s ‘A Little Respect', both of which reached the top 3. The band who brought these well known singles are back touring and will be dropping in to Arts Club in October to play us a selection of their classics as well as some possible new material.
Saturday 18th October
Dusky ‘The Next Step’ Tour
Next up in our Arts Club’s autumn picks is a very special tour date from dance music duo of the moment, Dusky. Currently about to embark on their ‘The Next Step’ tour that is in recognition of their new label 17 Steps, they will be performing extended 4 hour sets at some of the hottest clubs around the world including Chicago’s Spybar, The Warehouse Project in Manchester aside from of course, their date in Liverpool on October the 18th. The unstoppable pair will not be playing alone either, as special guests will be joining them in the form of Daniel Avery, Leon Vynehall, Lorca and Holly Lester.
Saturday 25th October
More electronic eventfulness will be following the week after on October 25th as Mr Scruff comes to the far west of the UK for an exclusive 5 hour DJ set. This guy is well known for his extensive performances and innovative use of samples, as well as a love for a food cuppa… Signed to a plethora of great labels including Ninja Tune and Pinnacle Records, Mr Scruff has a widely varied capability when it comes to production as he has churned out breaks, chill out, hip-hop, house and electronica. One of the true DJ's DJs, the epitome of eclectic, not one to miss.
Friday 31st October
As Elephants Are
As Elephants Are are a new, hotly tipped four-piece band whose recent singles like ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Crystal’ have drawn the attention of many reputable radio presenters and labels alike. Donning an innately hazy, laid back sound they echo the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and The Maccabees, a sound which has already given them a large fan base, landing the group with a number of tour dates both inside and outside the UK over the autumn and winter months. They will be taking to Arts Club on the 31st of October, joined by a number of special guests.
Saturday 15th November
Bondax & Friends Tour
And last but certainly not least, on the 15th of November, new school house duo Bondax will be stopping in for a date that is part of their Bondax & Friends Tour that will be hosted by one of the cities most popular dance music brands, Chibuku. Joining Bondax will be a selection of special guests who are currently touring with the pair, however the full line up is currently unannounced.
