Leeds techno specialists Alter return to Wire on Saturday 21st January, with Berliner Blind Observatory and BleeD boss Volte-Face supplying the ammunition for a Call Lane basement blitz. Sure to offer a barrage of trippy, immersive techno, the two artists will join usual resident Animist in producing a night of typical Alter force.
Alter look to use their nights to offer escapism from the world outside, and the hypnotic swirls and shimmers of Blind Observatory’s intricate productions are custom-made for such exploits. Never losing sight of the dancefloor, his tracks add melodic flourishes to the brutalist rhythms that drive them, moving back and forth between techno and electro with mechanical precision. Cutting an enigmatic figure, Blind Observatory’s rise has been near enough the result of his cosmic journeys alone, with his semi-lucid soundscapes popularising him as a selector in Berlin and further afield. A regular at Berghain, he’ll need no time to adjust to the darkness of Wire’s underground vault.
A partner of Daniel Avery in their Rote project, Volte-Face has assumed a similar role to Blind Observatory, working his magic with captivating loops and subtle progressions to ensure that dancefloors are fully locked in with their sonic surroundings. Engulfing sounds led by dense percussion and contorted 303 lines reflect a darkness to his sets, and much like Avery he can be expected to push that darkness into all four corners with his unforgiving exploration of deeper techno and acid. Both he and Blind Observatory should fit effortlessly with the Alter ideology.
