Mint hosts rowdy New York techno from a genuine legend on the 22nd of April, as Alter set Function loose for an extended set of volcanic force. Deploying a sound stylistically akin to the Ostgut Ton contemporaries Ben Klock and Marcel Fengler, Function has been making music that you feel since the mid-90s, releasing regularly on his own label Infrastructure New York, and as part of the collective Sandwell District. Responsible for releasing one of the standout techno LPs of 2013, Incubation, Function is a figure of great clout on both sides of the Atlantic, and has a CV to back it up. Resident at Berghain with an extensive line of releases to his name, Dave Sumner has certainly covered a lot of ground with his Function alias.
Clearly well-read when it comes to their techno history, Alter are not simply looking for the already established legends, and hope to show prophetic qualities with their inclusion of relative newcomer Scientific Dreamz of U. Having operated for a matter of years compared to the headliner’s decades, Scientific Dreamz of U offers the sounds of a dizzying near future - spacey, psychedelic and disorientating. Hard and unforgiving, his productions are both challenging and enthralling, seemingly a perfect fit for the aesthetic that Alter is carving out for itself.
Co-founder and resident Animist will draw open the curtain of this eye-catching night for techno fans. This should be another fantastic instalment in what is turning into a memorable Alter journey.
